Most frequent questions and answers

What is a Grab hire?

A Grab hire is a wagon with a hydraulic arms that has a bucket, that is controlled on the side of the vehicle to ‘grab’ waste. This can be done with almost any waste however cost is effected. Just tell us the waste you need removing and we will let you know!

What is plant hire?

Plant hire is a term used for the hire of different equipment and machinery. This type of machinery is normally needed for construction work. However, can be needed short term for other jobs as well.

It is an effective solution for companies that require equipment  short term or don’t have storage for when not in use!

It also takes the hassle out of maintance of the equipment

Where do we cover?

We can cover anywhere, the issue may be the transport cost.
If you want to know a cost from us, just fill in a form or give us a call. This is true for all hire short or long term as well as the civil and groundwork team. Although it will be more cost effective to have long term hire.

How much waste can a Grab wagon hold?

Here at MSM we have Grab wagons that can transfer up to 15 tonne of waste/materials.

This can either be removed from site or to have aggregates delivered to site in large amounts.

Depending on the material this will look different in the bed of the grab wagon.

Do i need insurance to hire plant?

Yes! If you want to hire any of the plant machinery. This is so that if anything happens to the machine whilst in your care, your insurance will cover it. (Replacing a machine will cost a lot of money)

There are lots of options for short term or long term insurance.

JCB insurance is a good option for short term hire. There is a link at the bottom of the plant hire page.

What if i need it longer than i have said?

With all our equipment hire or transport hire you are able to keep the machine longer or have additional loads ect if needed.
Of course this will depend on whether someone else is waiting for the machine though.

You are best off letting us know in advance if you think you might need it longer. But if you have booked a day in for collection but need it a bit longer, just give us a call and we can see if we can help!

What if something goes wrong with the machine/Machinery i have hired?

If something goes wrong, give us a call and let us know what has happened. As with anything thing can go wrong at any time.

If the machine can be fixed quickly then our on site mechanic will come and fix it as soon as possible.

However, if it isn’t a quick fix we will replace it with another machine.

The cost will either be handle by us if its a general wear and tear issue, however if it has been broken by being used in a way it shouldn’t be or if it has been vandalised whilst in your care – then unfortunately you will be responsible for the cost – or your insurance will be.

What is a the difference between a Scissor lift and an articulated boom?

The main difference between a scissor and a boom lift is the ability to move more freely with the boom lift however this does mean the space on the platform is smaller and takes less weight then the scissor lift.

However, a scissor lift can offer more stability for working at a height and can hold more weight for tools and materials.

Got a question!
